My Favorite Ornament

I like things to have a rhyme and reason, a pattern, some sort of order, you get the drift. My big tree in my living room is done in all snowmen, and I never hang anything on that tree that doesn't have a snowman theme...until today. My sweet girl made and hung my favorite ornament thus far...

Journey to Bethlehem

Tonight we visited MVBC's Journey to Bethlehem. It was SO good, and I'm so glad we went. At bedtime each night we've been reading a little board book about the true Christmas story. The scenes in the "walk through play" were almost identical, so Emma was really able to make a text to self connection (check out that snazzy teacher talk;).

The scene with King Herod was a little scary, even for this Mama. He asked us if we planned to follow "this baby Jesus", and when we answered yes he began screaming at us to get out. Every scene after that Emma asked, "is that mad man going to be here?"

A few of the scenes were outside, so Kristen came and got Luke and took him into her scene (the marketplace). This is how we found him when we were finished...

CHRISTmas Card 2011

I love Christmas cards...especially ones with pictures.

And I just happen to have two pretty cute subjects.

But every year it is a battle.

I've stopped ordering Christmas cards from Shauna's, because I would rather spend that money on a wall portrait.

But I'm positive that ordering them from her would save a large portion of my sanity during the Christmas season.

The things we do to save a dime (really, I am saving more than a dime:)...

Without further ado, I give you this year's attempts...
(My personal fave:)
(I'm sure you've noticed by now that there are no ornaments
on the bottom of the tree...this isn't my first rodeo, people:)
I've decided to use them all.

This is real life, folks...and I wouldn't trade all this madness for a million bucks (well, maybe;)!

(Just kidding!)

Merry CHRISTmas!

Mommies vs. Daddies

Let me tell you a little story.

Once upon a time there was a little girl. She was at daycare when she and some other kids got to discussing daddies.

Apparently they were each telling what their daddies did at home. The little girl proceeded to tell the other kids that her daddy laid on the couch, watched "ballgame", and drank Mt. Dew.

Now, in all fairness I'm not sure what the other kids said about their daddies, but I'm thinking (hoping;) it was probably along the same lines.

When the little girl was telling her daddy this at home (in her proudest voice, I might add...and while the daddy was, in fact, laying on the couch, watching "ballgame", with a Mt. Dew on the end table next to him), the mommy asked the little girl what mommies did.

The little girl quickly told her that mommies were not part of the discussion (because daddies are the best and all that jazz *insert disgusted look here*).

The little girl then went on to say that mommies work around the house while daddies lay on the couch, watch "ballgame", and drink Mt. Dew.

True story.

Straight from the mouth of a babe.

*Side Note - The little girl in the story above is not the daughter of bums (even though her mommy has been accused of receiving WIC). Her daddy is actually a pretty hard working fella...when he's at work...;)

Weekend Happenings

This weekend was relatively low-key, with no major plans...a rarity during the month of December!
Justin worked all day Saturday and came home just in time to keep Luke so that Emma and I could go to a dinner theatre put on by our church.
Tonight was the Christmas Cantata, and the kids got to take part in several songs. Emma was an angel...oh, the irony! ;)
Next up...Monday...but on the bright side there are only two more working Mondays left in 2011! I know, I'm wishing my life away...

Finally

Today I finally got around to doing some things I've been meaning/wanting to do for a while now...

First, I finally turned Luke's carseat around!
Second, I finally got my tree up!
(Daddy and Emma hung the first ornament...)
(Emma decorated the rest of the tree...)
(...which is why most of the ornaments are were on five limbs:)
(The final product...)
Finally, this has nothing to do with finally, but it's too sweet not to
share. I slept many nights this same way with her on my chest. She's
going to make some sweet baby a great mommy in about 30 years! :)
